Makers&Mentors: nurturing nature

An Exhibition from the Artists of hARTrocks

Arts educators devote much of their creative energy to inspiring others, encouraging exploration, cultivating skills, and helping students discover their own artistic voices. Yet behind every arts educator is an artist with a personal creative practice, individual interests, and a continuing desire to explore, experiment, and make.

Makers & Mentors 2026: Nurturing Nature celebrates this essential connection between teaching and making. The exhibition offers arts educators an opportunity to step beyond their roles as teachers and mentors to share their own work, reconnect with their artistic identities, and celebrate the importance of sustaining a personal creative practice.

The natural world provides a common thread, inviting participating artists to explore their relationships with nature through their own experiences, materials, and artistic approaches. Inspired by the landscapes of the region, the changing seasons, and the rhythms of growth, renewal, and rest, their work reflects the many ways nature informs and enriches creative expression.

Presented by The Makerspace at 16 State Street, a program of Heart of Ellsworth, this exhibition reflects a broader commitment to supporting artists and strengthening the cultural life of our community. Art has the power to deepen our connections to place, preserve stories, inspire new perspectives, and help us imagine what our communities can become. By creating opportunities for artists and educators to share their work, we celebrate not only their individual creativity but also the vital role they play in enriching our cultural landscape.
